O' Thou Eternal Victim Slain

from Last Days by The Brothers of Abriem Harp

/

lyrics

He stood all alone…and quiet
Far away from the waves and the sea
As the crowd grew loud, and the riot set
He didn’t have much to say anymore it seemed

And where the perfume ran through his hair
And where the light of the transfiguration had glowed
A crown of ridicule would soon sit there
A quiet stream of blood would flow

And as he walked through the streets with his wounds undressed
He felt the weight of the beam leave his hands
Some were shouting with joy, some beat their breasts
Pallid shadows were cast on the land

And when the hour had come, and his strength had left
At the place of the skull, he stood still
They put his hands to the wood, and with eyes bereft
He felt the flow of his blood, as it spilled

And as they lifted him…battered and naked…He sighed

The sky was calm as he…quoted the psalms…Eloi

Lo’ a darkness, a terrible darkness…arrived

And as the horn from the Temple sounded, he died
