about

For the past few years, the Brothers of Abriem Harp, a trio of Canton, Ohio singer/songwriters, have been writing and recording an album of songs about the final days of Christ, assuming different roles in the Gospel narratives, and telling the story from multiple perspectives. To finish the project, they have assembled this collection of hymns—some of which were recorded during the sessions for their upcoming album— to help fund the record’s finalization (mixing, mastering, and release). They’ve also enlisted some musical friends to add their own unique interactions with this ancient material.

There’s a poetry to these old hymns— a sharp conviction— that seems to outlive every musical fad and every passing flight of fancy. The songwriters have often fallen upon these songs for inspiration in times of numbness, striving to bring a little of that blood and guts honesty to their own work. The results are compiled here in the Harp Family Hymnbook, a series of reimagined songs that will hopefully awaken your spirit and engage your imagination.
